Umbraco 7 end of life

Umbraco 7 end of life

Umbraco 7 is a popular content management system (CMS) that has been around for over a decade. However, Umbraco has announced umbraco 7 end of life and that it will be ending support for Umbraco 7 on 30 September 2023. This means that after that date, Umbraco will no longer provide security updates, bug fixes, or new features for Umbraco 7 websites.

What does this mean for you if you have a website that is running on Umbraco 7?

  • Your website will still work after 30 September 2023, but it will be at increased risk of security vulnerabilities.
  • You will not be able to get any new features or bug fixes for your website.

How do I upgrade my website?

Umbraco 7 and newer versions of Umbraco use different versions of the Microsoft .NET framework. This means that there are some fundamental changes that mean you can't do a simple upgrade to a newer version.

You can upgrade your database (i.e. your content, users etc.), but you may run into problems with your website's code or your database.

The best way to upgrade your Umbraco 7 website is to migrate your content to a new Umbraco website. This will allow you to keep your content and start fresh with a new website that is based on the latest version of Umbraco.
